Tell us a little about your business – Lora & Flok:  We’re sheep farmers turned wool bedding makers, taking the wool grown on our family farm (Lora Valley) and turning it made into premium natural bedding here in New Zealand, We’re on a mission to help Kiwis enjoy better sleep and it’s all thanks to our happy sheep.

When did you start? September 2023

And what sparked the idea to start making wool duvet inners & pillows? I was looking for a way to be more involved on the farm with our youngest of 3 kids getting ready to start school. We were becoming increasingly frustrated by how undervalued our wool was and we were seeing more and more sheep farmers creating amazing products.  So we thought, why don’t we give it a go too. After a bit of researching, we learned that the wool our sheep grow has certain characteristics that made it the premium choice for bedding. Being big fans of good sleep, we got to work and then Lora & Flok was born.

What are the features that make Lora & Flok stand out from the crowd? We looked at the other wool bedding available in the market and asked ourselves how we could do it better. Our pillows are quilted with a cotton and wool padding to add an extra layer of softness. They come with a zipper and additional wool so you can actually open the pillow up and add or remove some wool to get the perfect height and feel. Lora & Flok duvet inners are filled with our one-of-a-kind wool fill that makes them luxuriously lightweight to snuggle under, compared to a regular wool duvet which is a lot heavier. On top of this, all the wool used in our bedding is exclusively grown on our family farm. Each piece of bedding is fully traceable and 100% grown and made in New Zealand.

How do your customers feel about 100% wool bedding? Is it a big win compared to other options? They love it! Some of our customers have used wool duvets before and can’t believe how light and plush our Lora & Flok duvet inners are. Everyone is surprised by how well our wool pillows keep their heads cool; not hot, which is what people usually expect with wool! We’re trying to spread the word that wool is the best choice for better sleep because of the way it regulates your body temperature, making it a winner for comfort and reducing sleep disturbance.

Which bed size is the most popular at the moment? Queen and king are our two most popular sizes.  Many of our customers seem to have a queen bed but often choose a king inner so they get a nicer overhang for extra comfort and a more draped look.

If we asked you to pick your favourite Patersonrose duvet cover design, what would it be …
For you? Luna Oatmeal and Black Stripe – it’s gorgeous!
For your children? Billie Blue Gingham & George navy & grey stripe

On a personal note with Nicola

What’s your earliest memory of your “favourite bedding” as a kid? I had a purple sleeping bag which was a lot of fun because our house had stairs.
For your own bedding preference, do you prefer stripes, florals or solid coloured bedding? I actually love them all. I like a mismatched bed, striped sheets, a solid duvet and a floral quilt or blanket on the end of the bed would be perfect. I’m still looking for the perfect quilt.
Be honest!  Do you iron your sheets? Absolutely not! I don’t want anyone looking in my linen cupboard!!
Night owl or early bird?  I’ve always been an early riser, which has been a blessing having 3 small people in the house that are all early birds too.
Duvet or quilt? I love a layered bed, so ideally both! But if I had to pick then a wool duvet, it’ll work through all the seasons.
Favourite tipple atm? Espresso Martini
Dream holiday destination you would love to go to? Greek Islands
Growing up, you wanted to be ….?  A photographer for National Geographic
What’s your go-to meal to cook ? Butterflied leg of lamb with roast kumara beetroot and parsnips, but in the summer, I switch out the veggies for a greek or simple garden salad.

Thanks Nicola.  Be sure to follow this brilliant new bedding company, Lora & Flok!
